Hiding your e-mail address has become an important issue in Groups. Some groups will not allow you to remain a member of their group if your e-mail address is showing.
One of the reasons is the possibility of your account being spoofed, even if the email address you have showing is fake. Spoofing means a person posts by email using your email address and it posts as if you were the one who posted it. They do not need your password to do this. When someone starts spoofing your passport, the only choice a group has is to unjoin or ban your passport to stop it.
Another reason is because once someone has your passport e-mail address they are 1/2 way into taking over your passport. Also, web spiders can pick up your e-mail address and you may find it getting filled with spam.
To hide your e-mail address, go to each group you belong to. Sign in and go to the 'Whats New' Page. To get there, look at the very top on the left hand side in the navagation bar. Once you see it, click on it.
Once you are at the 'What's New' page look to the right side and find the box that says "Member Tools". It looks like this...
Click on 'My E-Mail Settings'. You will then be taken to the 'E-mail Settings' page. It'll look like this...
Make sure there is not a check in the box that says "Allow other group members to see my e-mail address". If there is a check mark in that box, use your mouse to uncheck it.
You can also make any other changes at this page if you wish to. When you are done making your changes scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the 'Save Changes' button for your changes to take palce.
